Headquarters base reveals design plan for key streets
    2023-12-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN Bay Super Headquarters Base’s street system will be redesigned into a relaxed and enjoyable public environment for all users, according to a design plan that has recently been released.

The Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base is a core area shaping Shenzhen’s strategic development, which requires the quality of its public spaces to align with those of world-class bay area cities. Noteworthy features include distinctive streets, a tree-lined avenue, and well-conceived back streets, as per the plan.

The distinctive streets, such as Baishi Fourth Road, Shenwan Park Road, and Haipang Street, showcase unique elements reflecting the corporate identity, artistic ambiance, and maritime culture inherent to the area. The tree-lined avenue, comprising Shenwan first, third, and fourth roads, weaves a corridor of business, greenery, and smart urban living.

Each cluster in the area is planned with a well-conceived back street designed to reduce motor vehicle access through control measures. Continuous public green spaces are set up to form shared and pleasant leisure streets.

The design highlights the concept of “Streets for All,” in the hope of creating a relaxed and enjoyable public environment for all users in the headquarters base.

The plan reconsiders the design boundary of streets, adopting a “U” interface, which integrates streets with public green belts, parks, and the peripheries of schools and housing estates. Such design accommodates diverse user needs and completes the transformation from traffic-centric spaces to vibrant public domains and comfortable walking spaces.

The roads in the area are about 1.5 kilometers long east-west, and less than 1 kilometer long north-south, which makes it suitable for slow traffic and necessary to develop a comprehensive cycling and jogging system.

In addition, both Shenwan Park and Shenwan Third roads, which revolve around the central green axis, are envisioned to be vehicle-free during nonpeak commuting hours, offering pedestrians an open and inviting space.

The inclusion of trees and shade structures creates a comfortable spatial environment that adapts to the Lingnan region’s climate, offering a refreshing microclimate for users.    (Zhang Yu)
