Charity city SHENZHEN was honored with the title of “Charity City of 2023,” a recognition announced at the Philanthropic Awards Ceremony on Monday. In the past five years, Shenzhen’s average annual donation amount exceeded 7 billion yuan (US$985 million). The city has consistently ranked among the leading cities in China’s Charity Index. At present, Shenzhen is home to 486 charity organizations, according to Shenzhen Special Zone Daily. Futian mangrove FUTIAN mangrove, encompassing the mangrove area at Guangdong Neilingding-Futian National Nature Reserve and Futian Mangrove Ecological Park, has recently won the title of Guangdong Province’s “beautiful garden” under the forest chief scheme in 2023, becoming the first in the city to receive such an honor, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported. The award serves as an acknowledgment of the achievements in mangrove planting and restoration, value realization of an ecological product, and nature education. The Futian mangrove area, covering a total of 405.64 hectares, is also an important part of the Shenzhen Bay mangrove wetland. Combined ports THE container throughput under the GBA (Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area) Combined Port Program reached 316,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in 2023, up by 47.8% year on year. In 2023, two new combined port routes were opened linking Shenzhen Port with Zhanjiang Port in the city of Zhanjiang and Gaoxin Port in the city of Jiangmen. With these additions, the total number of routes under the combined port program has expanded to 37, encompassing nine cities in the GBA. The program was introduced in 2019 to solve problems such as rising logistics costs and shipping time in the Pearl River Delta. |
