Baroque, cellos, piano, quartet

Six string musicians, a harpsichord player and a flutist from Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra will play Baroque tunes composed by Bach, Vivaldi and Telemann on Friday. On the same night, eight Chinese cellists will perform easy-listening pieces by Vivaldi, Piazzolla, Gardel, Saint-Saëns and a few movie scores.

Matthew Glenn Quick, a foreign expert artist-in-residence in the piano department of the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, will give a recital of Chinese piano pieces Saturday.

The Mozart String Quartet, consisting of Nemethne Pongracz Judit Anna, Szklenka-Kiss Alexandra, Nemeth Gusztav and Szoke Endre, will play pieces by Mozart, Schubert, Dvorak and J. Strauss on Sunday.

‘Wing Chun’

Shenzhen’s original dance drama “Wing Chun,” which combines an elegant dance with Wing Chun, a traditional Chinese martial art, will be back in town this weekend after it received rave reviews in its Hong Kong debut last week.

‘No Longer Human’

With music by Frank Wildhorn and stage design by Leslie Travers, the Chinese musical “No Longer Human,” starring Liu Lingfei and Bai Jugang, portrays the complicated emotional world of a troubled man. It is adapted from a 1948 Japanese novel written by Osamu Dazai.

‘Invitation to Wine’

The legendary life of Tang Dynasty (618-907) poet Li Bai will be told in an original Chinese musical, “Invitation to Wine,” which is named after one of the poet’s masterpieces. Starring Zheng Yunlong, the musical highlights the life of the talented and romantic poet who is known for frequently celebrating the joy of drinking.
