A FOREIGN delegation of nearly 40 diplomats representing some 30 countries started a two-day visit to Shenzhen on Thursday, the last stop of their five-day tour of Guangdong Province.

Before arriving in Shenzhen, the delegation had concluded visits to Guangzhou and Foshan.

Their Shenzhen itinerary included visits to the Qianhai Exhibition Hall, Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Entrepreneur Hub, Qianhai International Talent Hub, and the Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base.

Shenzhen Mayor Qin Weizhong welcomed the guests during a meeting with them in the Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base.

“Shenzhen, covering an area of less than 2,000 square kilometers, has a population of nearly 20 million. It tops the country in foreign trade,” Qin said. “Moreover, the city ranks at the forefront of the world in terms of innovation capacity.”

He emphasized Shenzhen’s commitment to collaborating with Belt and Road countries.

Following Qin’s speech, Winfred Nii Okai Hammond, Ghanaian ambassador to China, shared his insights.

“The diplomatic tour provided us with a unique opportunity to experience Chinese economic development and heritage conservation,” Hammond said. “During our visit to Shenzhen, I was deeply impressed by this young and dynamic city.”

“As the reform and opening up policy presents a significant window to the international community, Shenzhen is an attractive destination for businesses, offering unique opportunities for international cooperation in various fields, including science and technology, culture, education, etc.” he said.

According to him, Shenzhen-based companies like Huawei and Shenzhen Energy have made substantial contributions to the development of Ghana’s digital and energy sectors.

Hammond also highlighted the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as a commercial capital of the world and Shenzhen as a new Silicon Valley.

Gustavo Alfredo Arambarri, charge d’affaires ad interim of Argentina, expressed his impressions.

“I have been in China for three months, and this visit to Guangdong was my first time exploring the interior of China. It’s really impressive to see the development of Shenzhen and the province,” he said.

Arambarri also discussed potential for cooperation between Argentina and China in terms of electric vehicle production.

“We have begun to produce electric cars in Argentina. I am aware that China and Guangdong Province are very advanced in this area, and it could be a potential area for cooperation. Argentina could learn more about making electric cars from China,” he said.
