A NEW international flight route, operated by Hainan Airlines, from Shenzhen to Cairo, Egypt has been launched, with its maiden flight departing from Shenzhen early yesterday morning, according to a release from Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport.

This marks the first direct international flight route to Africa opened by Hainan Airlines since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Flights to Cairo operate Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, with a duration of 12 hours and 15 minutes. Flight HU471 departing Tuesdays and Thursdays takes off from Shenzhen at 1:55 a.m. and lands in Cairo at 8:10 a.m. local time. Sunday flights depart Shenzhen at 2:10 a.m. and arrive in Cairo at 8:10 a.m. local time.

The return flight, HU472, departs Cairo at 1:30 a.m. local time and arrives in Shenzhen at 5:10 a.m. the following day, with a duration of nine hours and 40 minutes.

Passengers arriving in Cairo can transfer to 14 airports in Africa, 19 airports in the Middle East, and nine airports in Europe through Hainan Airlines’ transit service in partnership with Egypt Air.

For the upcoming Spring Festival holiday travel season, the Shenzhen airport introduced new routes to Nha Trang in Vietnam and Sapporo in Japan on Thursday.

Vietjet Air operates flights to Nha Trang on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, taking three hours to reach the renowned tourist destination in southeast Vietnam. With the addition of this new route, there are now 40 weekly flights from Shenzhen to Vietnam, covering cities such as Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi, and Nha Trang. Additionally, the airport operates 210 weekly flights between Shenzhen and other Southeast Asian countries.

Sapporo, famous for hosting the 11th Winter Olympics in 1972, is now a globally recognized winter tourist destination. The Shenzhen airport has introduced a new route to Sapporo, operating Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Currently, the Shenzhen airport operates 20 weekly flights to Japan, including cities such as Tokyo, Osaka, and Sapporo.

Looking ahead to the approaching Spring Festival holiday, the airport plans to enhance flight frequencies on other popular routes, including Barcelona in Spain and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.
