TRAIN G4598 departed from Shenzhen North Railway Station at 12:10 a.m. Saturday, carrying more than 1,000 passengers bound for Wuzhou South Station in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, marking the start of additional night train services.

In six days leading up to the Spring Festival holiday season, the railway operator will add 48 night trains connecting Shenzhen North Railway Station with Chengdu, Guiyang, Nanchang, Chengdu, Wuhan, Zhengzhou, Zhanjiang, and Chaoshan to alleviate the strain caused by the surge in travel during the holiday rush.

Shenzhen East Railway Station and Shenzhen Railway Station will each add six regular fast trains to Changsha and Yueyang to meet the rising demand for passenger travel, according to the operator.

“We will add 280 night trains during the travel rush period, with the peak expected to arrive Feb. 6,” Liu Yang, head of Shenzhen North Railway Station, said during an interview.

Data showed that the city’s railway system handled a total of 4.71 million passenger trips, including 3.25 departures, in the nine days between Jan. 26 and Saturday.

Shenzhen North Railway Station witnessed 300,000 passenger trips yesterday, an increase of 25.8% over the same period last year.
