SHENZHEN North Railway Station halted the operation of 13 trains to Hubei and Henan provinces between 6 a.m. yesterday and 6 a.m. today due to the snow and icy weather affecting central and eastern China.

Trains to Wuhan, including G4278, G4622, G1016, G2708, G4586, G1014, and G2704, were among those halted.

The disruption extended to other destinations, with G1040/1 and G4282/3 trains to Shiyan, G4628 to Xinyang, G4630 to Zhumadian, and G4964 and G4502 to Zhengzhou also brought to a standstill, as per an announcement from the railway operator.

From Sunday to yesterday, the Guangzhou Railway Group took the precaution of suspending 20 trains to Hubei, Hunan, and Anhui provinces that were heavily affected by snow and icy conditions.

The snowfall wreaked havoc on road traffic, causing disruptions amid the ongoing Spring Festival travel rush. Safety concerns prompted Hunan authorities to close expressways Sunday after multiple accidents and stranded drivers were reported.

Also on Sunday, the National Meteorological Center renewed an orange alert for snowstorms in some parts of China and predicted heavy snowfall in Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, and Shandong provinces.

According to the center, there will be snowstorms (10-18 millimeters) in parts of Hubei, Chongqing, Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi, Anhui, and Zhejiang between 2 p.m. today and 2 p.m. tomorrow. The average depth of snow could be 3-8 centimeters, reaching up to 15 centimeters in certain localities.
