City to add 170,000 school seats in 2024
    2024-02-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN plans to add 170,000 school seats in basic education this year and will renovate, expand, and build 130 kindergartens, primary schools, and high schools, according to the latest information from the city’s education authority.

Today marks the beginning of the new school term, and as part of new educational reforms, all compulsory education schools will now include a daily physical education class.

In recent years, Shenzhen has embarked on a large-scale school building plan, resulting in the addition of 644,000 seats for students in basic education. This includes 94,100 kindergarten seats, 460,800 vacancies in public schools for compulsory education, and 89,600 public senior high school seats.

The city aims to expand its educational infrastructure this year by adding 15 high-quality primary and high school education groups, which have different primary or high schools under their management. There is also a focus on expediting the construction of high-level senior high schools with unique characteristics, with the Shenshan high school campus slated for opening this year.

These efforts underscore Shenzhen’s commitment to providing accessible and high-quality education to its residents, ensuring a conducive environment for learning and growth, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported. (Wang Jingli)
