Holiday travel THE Shenzhen railway system handled a total of 13.34 million passenger trips between Jan. 26 and Monday, the first 25 days of the 40-day Spring Festival travel season, up by 42.8% over the same period last year, according to data released yesterday by Shenzhen North Railway Station. Blood drive IN the wake of the Spring Festival holiday, the Shenzhen Blood Center has issued an urgent appeal to the city’s residents to step forward and donate blood, as the center grapples with a significant depletion in its blood supply. The center has reported a stark decline in the number of blood donors, reaching its lowest level in years. The drop is attributed to the fact that many citizens have yet to return from their hometowns following the holiday period. Highlighting the pressing need, the center revealed that Shenzhen requires a daily influx of 650 donors to adequately meet the city’s demand for blood transfusions. However, during the Spring Festival holiday, this number plummeted to approximately 200 donors per day. Bookstore visits THE six major branches of Shenzhen Book City received over 650,000 visits between the first and the seventh days of the eight-day Spring Festival holiday, which ended Saturday. Over 100 themed activities focusing on Chinese culture, such as dragon-themed exhibitions, were held in the bookstores during the holiday to provide citizens with a cultural feast, according to the Shenzhen Publishing Group. |
