YOLO
    2024-02-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Meaning:

Used as the English title for China’s top-grossing female filmmaker Jia Ling’s new comedy film, “YOLO” is short for “you only live once.” This acronym is used, especially on social media, to mean that you should do things that are enjoyable or exciting, even if they are silly or slightly dangerous. In the Spring Festival holiday box office champion, Jia portrays Du Leying, an unemployed woman in her 30s who still lives with her parents until one day, she meets a boxing coach, who may just change her life.

Example:

A: 你把一整盒冰淇淋都吃完了,真的吗?太多了!

Nǐ bǎ yīzhěnghé bīngqílín dōu chīwán le, zhēnde ma?Tàiduō le!

You ate the entire carton of ice cream? That’s a lot!

B: 是有点多,不过,YOLO!

Shì yǒudiǎn duō, búguò,YOLO!

Well, YOLO, right?
