YOU may have forgotten the plot of a film you watched years ago, but upon hearing a song or a piece of score from it, the melody may instantly jog up your memory with fragments of the storyline, and even the sentiments you used to feel after watching it. That’s the charm and magic of music.

On Sunday afternoon, under the baton of acclaimed conductor Liu Yu, the Unicorn Chamber Orchestra will present a concert featuring iconic film music from some of the greatest classic films of all time, which promises a feast for your ears and an opportunity to reminisce the good old times.

Commencing with the main title from “Star Wars: A New Hope,” which will immediately transport you to the extensive fictional universe created by George Lucas, the program is followed by two more pieces from the “Star Wars” film series before moving to melodies from cinematic classics spanning a few decades including “Titanic,” “Jurassic Park,” “Cinema Paradiso,” “The Legend of 1900,” and the “Harry Potter” series, and wrap up in a “Pirates of the Caribbean” music medley.

An associate professor of conducting at the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Liu is active on concert stages nationwide. He obtained his master’s degree in conducting from the Berlin University of the Arts and doctorate in conducting from the University of Music Karlsruhe, and has served as the resident conductor of the Orchestra of Changchun Film Studio, the conductor of the Shenyang Symphony Orchestra, and a guest conductor of the Xi’an Symphony Orchestra.

Founded in 2016, the Unicorn Chamber Orchestra has performed in over 200 concerts. It boasts rich experiences collaborating with renowned musicians and conductors both at home and abroad, including pianists Yuan Fang and Cheng Wai, violinist Xue Suli, tenors Warren Mok and Shi Yijie, composer He Zhanhao, and conductor Christopher Russell.

The orchestra’s more than 100 members are all graduates of top music schools such as the Yale School of Music, the Royal Academy of Music, and the Central Conservatory of Music.
