New role for drones

FUTIAN District People’s Procuratorate has started using drones for evidence collection in environmental public interest lawsuits, the procuratorate said.

“The use of drones has broken constraints of space and distance, cutting the time spent on investigation and evidence collection from a few hours to just over 10 minutes now,” said Zeng Zhiping, chief drone operator at Futian District People’s Procuratorate.

The Futian procuratorate has established multiple key supervision points at places including the mangrove wetlands of the Futian Mangrove Nature Rserve and Lianhua Hill Park, closely monitoring vegetation protection, water pollution, illegal buildings, and forest fire hazards.

Temperature drop

A NEW burst of chilly air will arrive in Shenzhen on Friday after temperatures climb today and tomorrow, the city’s meteorological observatory forecasts.

The temperature drop will bring occasional light rain. Citizens are advised to stay warm and dress warmly when going out. Meanwhile, the yellow alert for forest fires is effective and residents are reminded to use fire and electricity safely.

E-bike scrutiny

THE Shenzhen market watchdog has further strengthened the supervision and law enforcement of the quality and safety of e-bikes after a fire in a high-rise residential building in Nanjing killed 15 and injured 44 Friday.

The city’s market regulator inspected a total of 930 e-bike and e-bike accessories stores, as well as one e-bike producer during the weekend. It found safety hazards in 124 venues that were inspected, issued 66 notices for rectification, and filed 44 cases for investigation and punishment, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.

Smart cameras

INTELLIGENT surveillance cameras will cover all independent towers of over 6,000 overhead electricity transmission lines in Shenzhen this year, according to the Shenzhen power supply bureau under China Southern Power Grid.

The move aims to further improve the coverage and density of online video monitoring, grasp the operation status of transmission equipment in an all-round way, and enhance the ability to quickly respond to emergencies, the bureau said.
