NEW progress has been made in the construction of Guangming Science City, and another major scientific facility will be completed this year, Bao’an Daily reported.

As an important part of the comprehensive national science center in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Guangming Science City’s construction is in full swing. The science city focuses on three disciplinary fields – information, life, and new materials. It also brings together major scientific and technological platforms including universities, major scientific facilities, provincial laboratories, and the Material Genome Big-science Facilities Platform.

According to the report, the platform will be completed and put into trial operation this year. After its completion, it will effectively empower the research and development of new materials.

The Material Genome Big-science Facilities Platform is led by Yu Shuhong, dean of the Institute of Innovative Materials of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), and jointly built by SUSTech, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, and Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School.

Guangming District is home to many high-tech companies in the new materials field.
