CARGO throughput at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport and Shenzhen Port saw a major increase of 22.9% and 23.5%, respectively, between January and February, data from the Shenzhen transport bureau showed.

During the first two months of the year, the airport processed a total of 255,000 tons of mail and parcels, while Shenzhen Port was projected to handle 4.83 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) of containers, data showed. At present, 24 airline companies are engaged in air cargo operations at the Shenzhen airport. The airport’s cargo flight routes now serve 59 destinations, including 37 international and regional destinations.

Moreover, the opening of the Nanhai-Yantian combined port March 1 expanded the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area combined port transportation routes to 37. The implementation of the combined port program is anticipated to slash the cost of transporting containers by 20%, thanks to streamlined customs declaration procedures.

The Shenzhen airport also handled 10.46 million passenger trips between January and February, an increase of 39.5% year on year. The daily number of flights arriving to and departing from the city reached a record high of 1,300 during the Spring Festival travel rush.

In the first two months, the Shenzhen airport opened international routes to Cairo, Sapporo, and Nha Trang, while also increasing the frequency of daily flights to Barcelona and Kuala Lumpur.
