THE State Administration for Market Supervision approved the establishment of the National Electric Vehicle Battery and Charging System Industrial Metrology Testing Center in Shenzhen, the only national center of the kind in China, a SZTV report said yesterday.
Based on Shenzhen Academy of Metrology and Quality Inspection, the center will play a role in providing technical support and assurance for the new energy automobile industry through metrology. The center will also enhance the core competitiveness of the national electric vehicle battery and charging system industry.
Battery power is the source of energy for new energy vehicles, the most important system in the whole vehicle, and the distinctive component that sets it apart from traditional fuel-powered vehicles. It accounts for 40%-60% of a vehicle’s cost.
Favorable policies, industrial and metrological foundations, and support from the State administration are among the reasons for the center settling in Shenzhen, according to the report.
In industrial ecology, Shenzhen has gathered key enterprises in the field of electric vehicles and charging facilities such as Huawei and BYD. The city also ranks among the top in the world in terms of the number of electric vehicles in use, and there is an urgent demand for metrology in the field of electric vehicle batteries and charging.
Focused on transforming Shenzhen into a “new-generation world-class automotive city” and the world’s leading “City of Superchargers,” the center will incorporate metrological scientific research achievements into the city’s strategies.
At the same time, it will accelerate technical breakthroughs in high-precision metrology testing that are required for the entire chain of supercharging infrastructure, power grids, vehicles, and batteries.
“The establishment of this center will provide the industry with ‘full industrial chain, full lifecycle, and full traceability chain’ metrological technical services and conduct forward-looking research. It will focus on solving the pain points and difficulties within the industry and fully play the role of metrological support and assurance,” said Liu Tiedong, director of the Shenzhen Academy of Metrology and Quality Inspection.
During the construction period of the center, it has conducted metrological testing on more than 100,000 charging piles and provided customized metrology testing services to over 30 battery enterprises including BYD, CATL, and Sunwoda. |
