HK Science Museum hosts polar research exhibition
    2024-03-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

IN preparation for China’s first domestically built polar research icebreaker Xuelong 2’s visit to Hong Kong in April, Hong Kong Science Museum is hosting “Polar Research and Climate Change Exhibition” through June 26.

The free exhibition introduces the ecology and natural environment of the Polar Regions, China’s polar research facilities and the efforts made by China to combat climate change. The exhibition aims to raise public awareness about the Arctic, the Antarctic and climate change.

The Xuelong 2 vessel will arrive at Hong Kong for the first time April 8 for a five-day visit, accompanied by many top-tier scientists, including the team leader of China’s 40th Antarctic expedition, Xinhua reported. The icebreaker will be open for public visits free of charge April 9-12, with a series of events planned during its stay.

Xuelong 2 is able to conduct scientific research in areas with high ice density and collect data on hydrology, chemistry as well as ecology. It made its maiden voyage to the Antarctic in 2019 on China’s 36th Antarctic expedition.
