TWO adjacent rooftop parks, Siqing and Yueqing parks, built atop Buji water purifying plant in Longgang District, serve as examples of three-dimensional greening which has a profound impact on the city’s ecology. The interconnected parks have been instrumental in expanding green space in this high-density city, mitigating the urban heat island effect, regulating floods during the rainy season, and enhancing the city’s landscape. Linked by an aerial bridge, the parks boast a range of ecological features, including constructed wetlands, permeable pavements, rain gardens, and grass swales, aligning with the sponge city concept. These elements are designed to absorb rainwater and a portion of the water purifying plant’s processed water, which is then purified by plants and microorganism, forming a naturally ecological recycling system. Through several passages and bridges, the parks seamlessly integrate with the surrounding communities. Visitors can relax under sleek shade structures or avail of fitness facilities in the parks. Children can play on slides, go rock climbing or skateboarding, and play basketball. A vast lawn in Yueqing Park is ideal for camping, kite-flying, and other activities. (Cao Zhen) |
