APPLE CEO Tim Cook met with BYD Co. chairman Wang Chuanfu and two of Apple’s other suppliers at Apple’s Shanghai office Wednesday to discuss their most recent advancements in smart manufacturing, green manufacturing, and talent development.

BYD entered into a partnership with Apple as a supplier in 2008, initially providing metal cases for Apple. Nowadays, the company provides a range of components and services, including glass, structural parts, and assembly, for several of Apple’s product lines including the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.

Over a decade of close collaboration with Apple, Shenzhen-based BYD has co-created an advanced intelligent factory information system.

This comprehensive system spans the full range of functionalities, from data collection to data visualization, thereby rendering the manufacturing process more transparent.

Moreover, integrating machine learning into different stages of production, including testing, inspection, predictive maintenance, and smart diagnostics, has led to the advent of a more effective and intelligent IT management approach. This integration has resulted in elevated efficiencies in both production and operations.

Shenzhen Everwin Precision Technology Co. became part of Apple’s supply chain in 2012 when it began producing metal components for the U.S. firm. Shenzhen Everwin’s operations have grown to include the supply of critical exterior parts for various Apple products like the Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro lines.

Lens Technology became an Apple supplier in 2006, initially producing glass protective screens for the first-generation iPhone. Currently, it produces components including glass and metal casings for multiple product lines including the iPhone. It is also one of the glass suppliers for the Apple Vision Pro.
