My memorable journey to San Francisco
    2024-03-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Shawn Deng, G9, RDF International School

In February this year, I embarked on an unforgettable journey to San Francisco, a city known for its iconic landmarks and vibrant culture. My itinerary included visiting the Golden Gate Bridge, exploring Fisherman’s Wharf, and attending an NBA game between the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers.

The Golden Gate Bridge, with its imposing red structure, was a sight to behold, especially under the enchanting glow of the setting sun. I learned that the local government spends a significant amount each year to maintain the bridge’s paint. The bridge has always been painted orange vermilion, making it blend well with the span’s natural setting and in contrast to the cool colors of the sky and sea. The bright orange color also provides enhanced visibility for passing ships. The paint applied to the bridge’s steel protects it from the high salt content in the air which can cause the steel to corrode or rust.

Fisherman’s Wharf pulsated with life, a mélange of sounds and movements. The carefree sea lions, sprawling on the docks, infused the scene with whimsical charm. The playful barks of these creatures, met with an occasional imitation from amused visitors, filled the waterfront with vitality.

The climax of my visit was attending the Warriors vs. Clippers game at Chase Center. I was so excited to be able to watch my favorite stars —Stephen Curry, James Harden, and Paul George — in action. The Warriors dominated early in the game, but a twist in the last five minutes saw Paul George seizing an opportunity from a Curry three-point miss, leading the Clippers to a thrilling win.

This trip to the U.S. broadened my horizons and deepened my appreciation for the world’s diverse cultures. The stunning landscapes, the bustling local life, and the pulse-pounding excitement of the NBA game made my San Francisco journey an indelible experience.

I am looking forward to future travels, eager to embrace the vast and wondrous landscapes our world has to offer.
