Plan seeks to expand payment services
    2024-03-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN is accelerating the construction of a consumer center with global influence, according to a work plan issued by the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government.

The plan, released Tuesday, focuses on improving payment services for international visitors and elderly people. By creating a market-oriented, legally compliant, and internationally competitive business environment, the city seeks to establish itself as a pivotal global consumer destination.

The strategic objectives outlined in the plan seek to revamp payment services for overseas travelers and elderly individuals in Shenzhen by April 15, 2024. Prioritizing sectors like dining, accommodation, transportation, tourism, shopping, entertainment, and healthcare, the initiative aims to provide tailored solutions to effectively meet diverse consumer needs.

By leveraging existing services that cater to Hong Kong residents, the plan will expand adaptable payment options from key locations, such as airports, ports, shopping malls, hotels, and tourist attractions, to enhance the consumer experience.

The plan also prioritizes the improvement of infrastructure for foreign cards by upgrading equipment and exploring contactless payment technologies. Enhanced merchant training, streamlined risk management, and quality assessments for foreign card acceptance will further streamline transactions for overseas consumers, ensuring a seamless payment experience.

Shenzhen’s efforts extend to optimizing foreign currency exchange services, promoting mobile payment solutions, and enhancing overall financial service capabilities to cater to a global audience.

Through initiatives like creating convenient payment demonstration areas, advancing digital RMB acceptance, and reinforcing risk prevention mechanisms, Shenzhen is committed to providing a world-class financial environment for consumers.

By embracing international standards, enhancing consumer convenience, and deploying cutting-edge payment solutions, the city is poised to attract a diverse array of customers and cement its reputation as a consumer hub with distinct global influence. (Windy Shao)
