THE Feinaki Spring Animation Season will be held for the first time at the Meisha Arts Center in Yantian District from Thursday through Saturday. A total of 36 animation works from 20 countries and regions will be shown, many of which have received accolades at world-renowned exhibitions and animation festivals. The exhibition will be divided into five categories. “Budding Season” and “Waves and Stars” are suitable for audience members of all ages; “Love Song of Spring,” “Ode to Everything” and “Between Generations are more appropriate for viewers aged 14 and above. Furthermore, the audience will have the opportunity to experience animations that combine advanced technologies with humanistic ideas. “My Inner Ear Quartet,” created by Japanese anime master Koji Yamamura using VR technology, will be showcased. The Meisha Arts Center, located just beside the Dameisha beach, will not only provide visitors with enchanting sea views but also a string of cultural events. Some Chinese artists will conduct workshops where visitors can learn how to create anime works. The term “Feinaki” is derived from “phenakistoscope,” an early animation device that used a spinning disk of sequential images and the persistence of vision principle to create an illusion of motion. Most of the animated films will be shown with Chinese and English subtitles.
