MEMBERS of a visiting delegation of 20 young people from Taiwan led by Ma Ying-jeou, former chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang party, said they were deeply impressed by Shenzhen’s development and would like to revisit in the future.
The delegation left Guangdong yesterday to continue a tour of the mainland that will last until April 11.
Ma and the delegation landed at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport on Monday afternoon, kicking off their mainland visit with Shenzhen as the first stop from Monday to Tuesday.
Their two-day itinerary included visits to three technology companies — DJI, Tencent, and BYD.
Ma and the delegation expressed a lot of interest in the industrial and agricultural drones and imaging products developed by DJI after arriving at the company’s exhibition hall.
DJI’s Osmo Mobile, a compact and foldable smartphone stabilizer that allows users to capture dynamic angles and selfies, also caught the attention of the visitors.
“The device is stable to hold,” a student surnamed Su, from Shih Hsin University in Taiwan, told Shenzhen Special Zone Daily. Su said that he has a DJI smartphone stabilizer, and DJI’s products are very easy to use and reasonably priced for students.
“After going back, I want to do more research on DJI, especially the technology part,” Su was quoted as saying.
Ma and the delegation then visited Tencent’s headquarters in Nanshan District to learn more about the tech giant’s development of industrial internet, artificial intelligence, mobile payment, digital infrastructure, and smart technologies for senior citizens.
“We learned that Tencent is giving back to society through technology to help vulnerable groups such as the elderly and disabled. This is what big companies need to do,” a delegate surnamed Lin said.
On Monday evening, Ma and the students went to the Shenzhen Talent Park near Shenzhen Bay, where hundreds of drones took off and illuminated the night sky with vibrant patterns.
The delegation also visited the observation deck on the 116th floor of the Ping An Finance Center, where they enjoyed a nighttime view of Shenzhen and Hong Kong. They were also greeted by a humanoid robot developed by Shenzhen robot maker UBTECH Robotics.
On Tuesday, Ma and the delegation headed to BYD to learn about the company’s development of new energy vehicles and battery technology.
“Shenzhen has left a good impression on me, whether it’s food, culture, or so many advanced technologies. We can learn about the advancements of the mainland here,” Lin said. He also expressed a desire to visit Shenzhen again.
“It’s so beautiful, how could I not want to come again?”
During a meeting with Guangdong Party chief Huang Kunming in Guangzhou on Tuesday night, Ma said he was impressed by Guangdong’s prosperity.
