THE Hong Kong crime drama film “In Broad Daylight” premiered in Shenzhen on Monday afternoon. The director and lead actors of the film were present at the event, engaging with the audience.

The film narrates the tale of a journalist who infiltrates a nursing home by posing as the granddaughter of a resident to uncover suspected abuse. This narrative is inspired by the real-life scandal at the Cambridge Nursing Home in 2015, where staff was captured water-hosing elderly residents in groups on an open rooftop and later exposed for physically abusing their patients. This incident caused a significant sensation in Hong Kong at the time.

Lawrence Kwan, the film’s director, expressed his outrage upon witnessing the news. “As a filmmaker, I pondered what I could contribute, and this film embodies my response,” he said.

The lead actors also shared their reflections on the societal impact stemming from the film’s creation. “I aspire to see kindness prevalent in everyone’s lives,” actress Leung Yung-ting said.

“In Broad Daylight” has garnered 16 nominations at the 42nd Hong Kong Film Awards, with winners set to be revealed Sunday. The nationwide release of the film is scheduled for tomorrow.
