THE “Pick Me Up” International Career and Internship Fair was held yesterday at Shenzhen University Town in Nanshan District. The fair attracted more than 400 Chinese and foreign students from a dozen universities and research institutes in the city.

Organized by the Yuehai and Taoyuan subdistrict offices, the fair aimed to boost the employment of foreign students in Shenzhen and help local enterprises secure foreign talent for their global development.

Over 30 employers, including leading Chinese companies, foreign-invested enterprises, and businesses that are venturing into international markets, had booths at the fair.

Employment-related services, such as resume analysis, consultations regarding work and residence permits, and guidance on the work visa application process, were also provided.

According to the organizers, nearly 200 foreign students from 58 countries who are studying at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Shenzhen University, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, Tsinghua University International Graduate School, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, the Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), and the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the fair.

Among the attendees was Amir Hamza, from Pakistan, a media communications Ph.D. student at Shenzhen University who will graduate this December.

“I have сhosen to stay in Shenzhen for the high-level research capability of its universities, the good ecological environment, and its technology level that will bring more opportunities,” Hamza told Shenzhen Daily.

Ali Vaighan, a Ph.D. student from Iran who is studying electrical engineering and control at Shenzhen University, stated that the job fair took place in the right place, at the right time, and for the right people.

An anonymous Ph.D. student who has been in Shenzhen for seven months was under the impression that job fairs for foreign students were rare in the city. He believed that the job fair would be a good opportunity for students to have face-to-face interviews with enterprises.

Geng Shijie, an HR manger with SKG, said the company had received a couple of resumes from applicants. SKG is a firm dedicated to providing health diagnosis, electronic devices, and health management services for individuals and families.

“Our company is going global, and 10% of our products are sold overseas. We are planning to recruit around 10 foreign employees for our business expansion in the Middle East, North America, Japan, and Indonesia,” said Geng.

The Alibaba International Digital Commerce Group booth was crowded with visitors who were interested in the company’s internship program.

The company offers internships for a variety of positions including production, operations, and marketing. The company pays interns 8,000 yuan (US$1,100) per month, with the possibility of full employment after the internship.
