THE Haifeng 668 ship, which set sail from the Pacific archipelago country of Kiribati, docked at the Shenzhen Xiaomo International Logistics Port on Friday, carrying an impressive cargo of 1,090 tons of tuna.

It marked the first occasion that a deep-sea fishing vessel had unloaded goods at the Xiaomo port since its official commencement of operations at the end of 2021. The docking of the Haifeng 668 ship signifies an important step for the Xiaomo port in expanding its commercial reach and bolstering its competitiveness.

Shenzhen stands as a key hub in Guangdong’s offshore fishing sector, with its fleet and economic output constituting approximately 60% of the province’s totals.

Driven by its vision to become a maritime central city, Shenzhen has actively pursued the expansion of its offshore fishing industry, the promotion of fishing industry clustering, and the cultivation of a premium aquatic product market in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Scheduled to take place from May 17 to 19 at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Futian District, the 2024 Shenzhen Fisheries Expo will spotlight the city’s maritime economy, ocean fishing, offshore fishing, and aquaculture. Spanning 12 exhibition segments covering 45,000 square meters, the event is expected to attract over 80,000 industry professionals, including domestic and international importers, exporters, wholesalers, distributors, e-commerce platforms, and food delivery enterprises. It will showcase a diverse range of market offerings and opportunities, the event’s organizer said.

Industry behemoths like China National Agricultural Development Group Co. Ltd., Shenzhen Port Group, Shenzhen Nongke Group, Liancheng Overseas Fishery, and South China Fisheries Group are slated to participate in the expo and spotlight premium products.

The upcoming expo will deliver a lineup of attractions, including the Tuna Cutting Show, Greater Bay Area Food Culture Summit, Global Seafood Sashimi Art Competition, Asia International Chef Challenge, coral adoption initiatives, and diving planting experiences, alongside novel exhibitions showcasing corals, koi fish, and goldfish. The expo aims to offer visitors a diverse and engaging experience.
