Celebrations start in Hong Kong to mark Sanyuesan
    2024-04-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A SERIES of events commemorating the Guangxi festival of Sanyuesan in Macao and Hong Kong kicked off at the Asia Television Digital Media Building in Hong Kong on Saturday.

Guangxi Sanyuesan, also known as Zhuang Sanyuesan, is a national-level intangible cultural heritage. During this festival, people pay homage to their ancestors, perform lively dances, savor special dishes, and participate in various festivities around the third day of the third lunar month, which fell on April 11 this year.

In its third year of celebrating these cultural traditions in Hong Kong, the local community has grown to embrace and deeply appreciate these cherished customs.

John Lee Ka-chiu, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, delivered a video speech at Saturday’s launch ceremony. He said that the events offered Hong Kong residents an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the traditions of the Zhuang ethnic group. He underscored the importance of such events in fostering stronger ties between the communities of Hong Kong and Guangxi, thereby advancing tourism, economic exchanges, and commercial relations between the two regions.
