EMBARK on a theatrical journey brimming with intrigue and suspense. A new interpretation of Agatha Christie’s classic whodunnit, “And Then There Were None,” from London’s esteemed West End, The main cast and crew of “And Then There Were None” share their stories at the press conference at Pingshan Theater on Wednesday.

Directed by Lucy Bailey, acclaimed for her work on Christie’s enduring hit, “Witness for the Prosecution,” “And Then There Were None” brings a dark and enthralling story, promising to keep spectators perched at the edge of their seats as the chilling murders unfold.

The timeless thriller follows a group of strangers brought to a solitary mansion off the coast of Devon. When a terrible storm cuts them off from the mainland, and with the mansion’s hosts mysteriously absent, the true reason for their presence on the island becomes horribly clear as secrets from their past come back to haunt every one of them.

Bailey expressed that with twists and turns to keep audience members guessing until the very end, “And Then There Were None” is both gripping and thought-provoking for its depiction of a group of people stranded in a crisis of their own.

The Pingshan Theater is the play’s first stop in China during its inaugural China tour. At a press conference held at the theater Wednesday, some of the cast and crew shared their stories with local fans.

Tom de Keyser, producer overseeing the play’s international tour, said that knowing “And Then There Were None” is very popular among Chinese audience members, they decided to begin the play’s international tour in China. Every intricate detail, from the costumes to the props and equipment, was meticulously transported from the U.K. for the Chinese leg of the tour.

“We were performing this in the U.K. only two weeks ago, and we brought it all the way to China. It’s a beautiful theater here and it’s much bigger than a lot of the theaters we played in the U.K. Some of the people that we’ve met around the theater have been telling us how excited they are for the performance,” said Keyser at the press conference.

Bailey also expressed her admiration for the Pingshan Theater’s grandeur. “The theater is fantastic. I mean, there are so many rooms and facilities. I’m really looking forward to feeling the response from the audience. I hope that you have a good time in our show,” she said.

Mike Britton, the play’s set and costume designer, has crafted an immersive island ambience for the China shows. With unique lighting and stage designs, the audience members will be transported into the isolated world in the play. “It will be very interesting to see what you think of this production with an English-speaking cast. This will be quite different, and hopefully, you will get a lot from it,” said Britton, who has designed for numerous theater plays and TV dramas, including “Black Mirror” (Season 6) and “Killing Eve” (Season 4).

The press conference drew enthusiasts from all corners of the city, exemplifying the widespread appeal of Christie’s masterpiece. “As an ardent admirer of ‘And Then There Were None,’ the opportunity to interact with the cast and crew in Pingshan couldn’t be missed. I eagerly await the forthcoming performances this weekend,” said Ms. Wang, a resident who journeyed from Nanshan to attend the event.

On this Sunday noon, fans will relish a backstage visit to have an intimate glimpse into the inner workings of this theatrical marvel. Following the shows in Pingshan, the production is set to grace the stages of Shanghai, Beijing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Nanchang, Tianjin, and Xi’an over the ensuing three months.
