Lucas Zhu, G11, RDF International School I just had one of my most amazing Sundays. Organized by our French teacher, my schoolmates and I went to Paris for a day. We stayed about a week in France, but the capital city was the most impressive. Paris has majestic historic buildings as well as many fashionable and modern streets. I toured the whole of Paris by bus. Through the broadcast tourist information on the bus, I learned a lot about Paris, such as the statues built for the celebration of Bastille Day, and some history about Napoleon. The most exciting part was climbing the Eiffel Tower. From the second floor of the tower, I had a great view of the whole city. The streets of Paris are a labyrinth for any visitor; but looking from the Eiffel Tower, I found that every street would eventually pass the Arc de Triomphe. The orderly design perfectly integrates the streets and buildings of Paris, which resemble a well-designed jigsaw puzzle when people look from a vantage point. The food in Paris is also unforgettable. After visiting the beautiful city, I went to a restaurant where elegant jazz music and the smell of freshly baked bread floated in the air, giving the venue a unique touch of French romance. The dining requires strict table manners, and only when everyone has finished their courses will they leave. Usually, there are three courses for each person at a French meal, which are the appetizer, the main course, and the dessert. My appetizer was a freshly baked baguette with homemade butter. Unlike other types of bread, the baguette pays more attention to the texture. The crust was crispy, but the inside was soft. The main course was a classic steak, but it was labeled as “from the butcher” on the menu, which focused on the freshness of the ingredients. The French have a superb taste with desserts, so you can’t go wrong with any dessert. I chose a lemon tart. The chef had splendid control over the taste, adding just enough sugar to balance the sourness of the lemon. The end result is a dessert with a lemon aroma and refreshing taste, not too sour or sweet. From the breathtaking landscapes to the cuisine, the day in Paris was an experience that left a lasting impression on me. |
