New round of heavy rainfall to hit Shenzhen
    2024-05-28  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN is expected to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms today, with Level 8 gusts in some regions.

The chance of heavy rain will remain high from tomorrow to Friday, according to thinformation released by the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory.

The heavy downpours are known as “dragon boat rain,” which refers to precipitation that occurs around the Dragon Boat Festival — the period near the summer solstice (between May 21 and June 20).

Heavy rains tend to occur from midnight to early morning during the “dragon boat rain” period. Citizens are advised to stay away from flood-prone areas, slopes, waterlogged areas, and other dangerous areas.

Additionally, Ewiniar, the first typhoon this year, emerged near Luzon Island in the Philippines on Sunday and has gradually moved northeast. However, it will have no direct impact on Shenzhen.
