Traditional lacquer in a contemporary light
    2024-05-29  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

CHINESE artist Han Chunling is currently showcasing her lacquer and ink paintings at the “No Boundary” exhibition at the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning.

The exhibition reflects the artist’s dedicated exploration of traditional Chinese natural lacquer in contemporary paintings, a departure from the prevalent use of synthetic lacquer in other artworks.

Observing Han’s paintings, one can feel a liberated and fluid style, embodying the innovative evolution of this traditional material within the realm of modern aesthetic sensibilities. Her creations resonate with a harmonious blend of traditional Chinese aesthetics and contemporary artistic expressions.

Plans are underway to display her works in other destinations such as Beijing, Paris and various domestic and international cities next year. Han aims to draw global viewers’ gaze to the flourishing landscape of contemporary Chinese art and traditional lacquer culture.
