German eVTOL maker heading to Bao’an
    2024-06-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

LILIUM, the developer of the world’s first all-electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) jet and a pioneer in regional air mobility, has announced a significant step in its global expansion with the signing of a collaboration agreement with Bao’an District.

The partnership marks the establishment of Lilium’s Asia-Pacific regional headquarters through its newly formed Chinese entity, Powerful Wing.

Under this agreement signed in Munich, Germany, on Monday, Lilium aims to become a key player in the district’s low-altitude economy and foster relationships with local infrastructure partners, customers, and regulatory bodies. Initially focusing on the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, which boasts a population exceeding 85 million, Lilium is now planning to extend its reach throughout China and the broader Asia-Pacific region.

Lilium’s regional headquarters will be housed in the Bao’an Low-Altitude Economy Industry Public Service Center, making it the first European eVTOL manufacturer to establish a regional office in Bao’an. The headquarters will play a crucial role in managing Lilium Jet sales, services, and support across China and the Asia-Pacific area. The company also plans to complete certification and validation processes in China, which is projected to make up about 25% of the global eVTOL market.

Ni Yong, executive vice head of the Bao’an District Government, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, saying, “We are proud to welcome Lilium to Bao’an District as part of our shared mission to build the low-altitude economy of the future. This valuable collaboration will create exciting new opportunities and support the development of the necessary infrastructure to bring sustainable regional aviation to Shenzhen.”

Klaus Roewe, CEO of Lilium, echoed this sentiment, saying, “China represents a huge opportunity for the eVTOL industry and this partnership with Bao’an District will expand our footprint even further in China. We believe the Lilium Jet is well-placed to meet the demands of customers in China and across the region. We are particularly grateful for the modern facilities provided by Bao’an District in the Bao’an Low Altitude Economy Industry Public Service Center and for the holistic support they offer to encourage growth in the low-altitude economy industry.”

Production of the Lilium Jet began late last year at the company’s headquarters near Munich, and the jet’s first piloted flight is scheduled for the end of 2024. (SD-Agencies)
