Local parks enhance experience of visitors with useful amenities
    2024-06-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN’S municipal parks are taking steps to elevate the experiences of visitors by introducing a series of thoughtful amenities, much to the delight of residents and tourists alike, Shenzhen Evening News reported.

A recent social media post from someone who visited Lianhua Hill Park has garnered widespread attention because it mentions that large bottles of mosquito repellent have been placed along the park’s hiking trails — a seemingly small addition that was a pleasant surprise to many. The initiative, designed to help visitors combat the nuisance of mosquitoes during the summer months, has been enthusiastically received.

During a recent visit to Lianhua Hill Park by reporters from Shenzhen Evening News, the popularity of these mosquito repellent stations was immediately clear. Placed at intervals along the hiking paths, transparent boxes containing 500-milliliter bottles of repellent were being eagerly used by visitors.

A local resident surnamed Zheng expressed her gratitude, highlighting how such amenities have markedly improved her experience in the park. “This service is really considerate,” Zheng said. “Living nearby, I often contend with mosquito bites while walking in the park. Discovering that mosquito repellent is available here was a pleasant surprise. Lianhua Hill Park deserves praise!”

In addition to mosquito repellent, Shenzhen parks are introducing a range of other thoughtful conveniences. Many now feature drinking water facilities that offer cold, room temperature, and hot water options. Furthermore, self-service garbage bags are being provided along hiking trails to encourage visitors to dispose of their trash responsibly.

Moreover, park administrators are equipping certain parks with publicly accessible first aid kits and ensuring access to facilities like faucets near sand pits in community parks for rinsing. On rainy days, a unique initiative allows visitors to unlock and use public red umbrellas, which must be returned within five working days, with a simple click. (SD News)
