ON Wednesday, a shield tunneling machine began excavation work on Metro Line 15 at Bao’an Park Station and will move towards Liutang Station, signaling a new stage in the line’s construction. The line, scheduled to be completed in 2028, will greatly enhance rail transit service in the city’s western area.

Dubbed a circular line, the 32.2-kilometer-long Line 15 will strategically move around the western area of Shenzhen and link Qianhai, Nanshan, and the central business area of Bao’an with 24 stations, including 18 interchange stations.

Both beginning and ending at Tinghai Road Station, it will pass through Mawan, Shekou, Houhai, the Shenzhen High-tech Industrial Park, the Xili Transport Hub, the Liuxiandong Industrial Base, Xin’an, Xixiang, and the Dachan Bay Terminals.

Currently, substantive construction has started at 23 work sites on the route. Major structural construction has already commenced on five stations, including the Tinghai Road, Western Logistics, Railway Park, Dongbin Road, and Chanwan Central stations.

In another development, excavation work recently started on the Kuichong Station to Dapeng Station section of the Dapeng Spur Line of the Shenzhen-Huizhou Intercity Railway.

The spur line will begin at Longcheng Station in Longgang District, move through Longgang and Pingshan, and end at Xinda Station in Dapeng New Area. Spanning a total distance of 39.4 kilometers, this line will include six stations and is expected to open to passengers in 2026.
