AT noon yesterday, just a few hours before the Shenzhong Link officially opened to the public at 3 p.m., eight specially arranged buses transported construction workers and their families to the link, allowing them to admire their achievements firsthand. Jia Xiao, a 35-year-old from northwestern China’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, graduated from Hohai University and has been working in Guangdong for 10 years. Jia, who worked in the steel structure production quality management department of the Shenzhong Link’s under-sea tunnel project, took his parents to see the tunnel. His parents are proud of their son’s involvement in this major engineering project. Upon witnessing the completion of the Shenzhong Link after seven years, the family felt a sense of relief and pride. Ai Shuquan, a 25-year-old man, brought his girlfriend to experience the Shenzhong Link. He joined the project in 2022, managing the supply of gravel. “I feel proud that my work played a role in every section of the link. Now, it is very convenient for us to visit Shenzhen to meet friends or attend concerts,” said Ai. China Railway Shanhaiguan Bridge Group Co. employee Dong Jialiang and his colleagues also participated in the construction of the link. He came from Hebei, capital city of East China’s Anhui Province, with his wife and daughter to witness the opening day. Dong’s 18-year-old daughter had just completed the National College Entrance Examination. After seeing the magnificent project, she said she would study hard and serve the country just like her father. (Han Ximin) |
