AS 42 Olympic champions will lead the 405-athlete Chinese delegation to compete at the Olympic Games in the City of Lights, our local sports enthusiasts are demonstrating their talent and skills at Shenzhen’s city games. Held every four years since 1981, the city games in its 11th edition run between April and October this year, with participants aged between 8 and 65 coming from all walks of life. The young sportsmen and sportswomen are competing in 37 categories, coinciding with the majority of the Olympic sports. The city games help to promote sports among the young generation, besides serving as a mechanism to spot promising talent for higher-level teams. For grown-up sports enthusiasts, the games offer a chance to compete, exchange, and have fun, with such fun competitions as lion and dragon dances, tai chi, and plaza dancing included. The boxing matches and field and track competitions for the young were held yesterday respectively at Jianshang Sports Complex in Longhua District and Bao’an Stadium. Explore the exciting moments at those two venues through the lens of Shenzhen Daily photographer Liu Xudong. (Li Dan) |
