FROM gaining a better understanding of essential AI concepts to delving into ethical considerations and acquiring hands-on experience with state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, a group of 15 students from different places of the world have embarked on an enlightening AI journey in Shenzhen.

The seven-day “Life With AI” Summer Camp commenced at the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) last Sunday and is scheduled to conclude this Saturday.

This educational initiative was jointly organized by the Shenzhen Financial Stability & Development Institute and SUSTech.

Victor Lan, a 13-year-old student from Hong Kong, expressed his appreciation for the camp with the valuable insights gained from visits to leading tech and AI firms, as well as the engaging lectures delivered by industry experts.

Lan envisioned a gradual enhancement of his AI knowledge and skill set through this immersive experience.

In her speech at the camp’s inauguration, Zhang Qi, director of the institute, emphasized AI’s pivotal role in steering a new era of scientific and technological advancements across various sectors.

She urged the participating students to absorb the latest AI trends, elevate their cognitive capabilities, contemplate future career paths, and broaden their global perspectives.

Throughout the camp, students had the opportunity to explore renowned companies like Tencent, Pony.ai, UBTECH, and Huaxia Bank. In addition, they engaged in an art workshop to delve into China’s rich intangible cultural heritage.

Ricardo Nonis, fresh out of high school, displayed a keen interest in the autonomous driving technology during his visit to Chinese technology startup Pony.ai on Thursday. Nonis expressed how the company visit had sparked a newfound curiosity in this field, motivating him to delve deeper into related sectors.

Katherine Lin Shu, a native of Hong Kong and a first-year psychology student at the University of Manchester, remarked on how the summer camp had provided her with a clearer vision of the evolving AI landscape and had ignited a passion for exploring potential career pathways.
