MORE than 30 educators from Hong Kong visited Nantou Ancient Town and the Nanshan Museum on July 12 to enhance cooperation and interaction between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. The delegation was led by Tsang Wing-chi, chief quality assurance officer of Quality Assurance Division of the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Education Bureau. The educators initially explored Nantou Ancient Town, a historical site with shared significance for both Shenzhen and Hong Kong. They walked past the town gates and admired the unique cultural atmosphere. Following this, the team visited an exhibition titled “The Inca and Their Tawantinsuyu: The Land of Four Quarters” at the Nanshan Museum. Various Inca cultural relics are on display, offering visitors a glimpse into the ancient South American civilization. The delegation members exchanged ideas during a meeting. Then, the Nanshan Museum presented a replica of the precious “Xin’an Annals” to the Hong Kong Education Bureau in honor of the educators’ contributions to cultural exchange and inheritance. In return, the Hong Kong Education Bureau presented a certificate of gratitude to the Nanshan Museum and expressed anticipation for future cooperation to advance cultural education. The Citizenship and Social Development curriculum is a core subject of the three-year senior high school courses in Hong Kong. The curriculum aims to broaden students’ horizons and cultivate wide-ranging basic knowledge by exploring topics related to Hong Kong, the nation, and the contemporary world. Through studying economy, science, technology, environmental protection, sustainable development, public health, and other subjects, students can develop multi-faceted and critical thinking skills. The mainland study tour for students is a vital part of the Citizenship and Social Development curriculum. It assists students in building cultural confidence and gaining an understanding of national culture and history. In September 2023, Nantou Ancient Town was officially incorporated into the Citizenship and Social Development curriculum’s study route by the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Education Bureau. The Nanshan Museum will become a significant venue for the patriotic education of Shenzhen and Hong Kong youth. (Li Mingzhen) |
