BICYCLES from Guangming-based Xidesheng (XDS) Carbon-Tech are set to make their second Olympic appearance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, which start this Friday.

As a longstanding partner of the Chinese Cycling Association and the official sponsor of the Chinese National Mountain Bike Team, XDS has played a crucial role in driving the growth of cycling sports in China. The national team has won two Asian Championship titles and one Asian Games championship while riding XDS bicycles, according to a press release from the Guangming District Government.

With an annual production capacity of more than 5 million units, XDS is recognized as the world’s largest carbon fiber firm.

Compared to the debut of the bikes at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, their upcoming appearance promises a slew of new enhancements. As the lightest among its global competitors, the bicycles represent a cutting-edge fusion of advanced technology and innovative design.

Crafted from T1100 carbon fiber, XDS bicycles feature a frame that weighs a mere 1,150 grams, with a total bicycle weight of just 9.6 kilograms. After four years of rigorous development, the latest version of the XDS Olympic bicycle is lighter, sturdier, and more finely tuned than before. Adorned with dragon-themed graphics that feature Chinese red hues, these bicycles embody a distinctive Chinese character.

Known for its breathtaking landscapes, including mountains, forests, and lakes, Guangming is emerging as a hub for cycling enthusiasts. With a focus on complete industrial chain development, Guangming’s potential for cycling is growing.

As urban cycling has become an increasingly fashionable lifestyle choice for city dwellers in China, the number of bikes in the country has soared in recent years. According to the China Bicycle Association, the country now has more than 200 million bike owners, with Shenzhen ranking fourth nationwide in the reduction of carbon emissions through cycling.

A local resident surnamed Yang said that he finds the allure of cycling in Guangming irresistible, thanks to its stunning landscapes and well-developed cycling infrastructure. Yang’s favorite cycling spots include the Hongqiao Park Mountain Bike Trail, the Guangming Fun Farm, and the Maozhou River Cycling Lane.

Capitalizing on its nature-based comparative advantage, Guangming has strategically promoted cycling as one of its key outdoor sports alongside rowing and equestrian activities. The district’s ambitious development plans also include establishing the XDS International Cycling Training Base, which will be capable of hosting major international events.

To cater to the diverse needs of residents, Guangming is expanding its cycling infrastructure and planning interconnected trail zones that link water resources and parks. This initiative aims to create a comprehensive network of more than 200 kilometers of cycling paths, offering a cycling experience that blends nature with urban exploration.

The district has shown its commitment to nurturing talent and promoting cycling sports by supporting the XDS China Cycling Team. The team, which includes elite cyclists from China, Iran, Kazakhstan, and other countries, has excelled in international competitions.

Meanwhile, Guangming has successfully organized high-profile cycling events like the China Mountain Bike League and the Guangming International Road Cycling Race.
