SZ sizzles as temperatures exceed 35°C
    2024-07-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory raised the city’s heat alert from yellow to orange Thursday as temperatures soared above 35°C.

Northern and densely populated areas in the city have experienced highs exceeding 37°C. Officials urged residents to take precautions against heatstroke and limit outdoor activities.

This intense heatwave, caused by the weather patterns around Typhoon Gaemi, is forecast to give way to more volatile weather.

Beginning Friday, thunderstorms are expected to become more frequent, with coastal highlands and coastal areas potentially experiencing gusts reaching levels 7 or 8 on the Beaufort scale. From Saturday to Wednesday, the southwest monsoon is set to bring frequent and heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of flooding.

Residents are strongly advised to avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, particularly around midday, and to take protective measures against heatstroke and sunburn if they must venture outside. Workers in high-temperature environments should also take appropriate precautions, a sznews.com report said. (SD News)
