THE Fenghuang Ancient Village in Bao’an District has undergone a revitalization with the display of over 40 paintings using comprehensive materials at the Wang Di Art Studio and Luo Zhangze Art Studio within the village. The “Into Ancient Village — Shenzhen (Bao’an) Comprehensive Material Painting Exhibition” showcases artworks created by 21 artists. Each piece has once been displayed across Guangdong, or nationwide. In the exhibition, the comprehensive material paintings not only serve as art pieces hanging on the walls but also resonate with the essence of the ancient village, infusing it with a sense of agility and vitality. The Fenghuang Ancient Village, a 700-year-old architectural gem of Cantonese heritage, now harmoniously integrates with modern art forms. According to artist Wang Di, since July last year, Fuyong Subdistrict, where the village is situated, has been inviting a group of artists to create within the village.“These artists bring a fresh artistic perspective to this centuries-old village, fostering an intriguing juxtaposition between tradition and contemporary expressions,”she shared. Xu Yang, the director of the Art Committee for Comprehensive Material Painting and Art Preservation and Restoration of the Guangdong Artists Association, noted that while traditional painting often reveres history, comprehensive material painting represents a genre that combines historical research with forward-looking creativity. “This exhibition seamlessly blends contemporary artworks with the cultural heritage of the ancient village, reaching unexpected artistic heights,” he remarked. Xu also said that the committee will promote the integration of comprehensive material painting with traditional culture and explore methods for merging contemporary art with the preservation and advancement of traditional villages, so as to inject fresh vitality into future cultural endeavors.
