SZU student swimmers set Asian record at Olympics
    2024-07-30  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

CHINESE female swimmers Yang Junxuan, Cheng Yujie, Zhang Yufei, and Wu Qingfeng won bronze medals in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay final at the Paris Olympics on Sunday, setting a new Asian record with a time of 3 minutes 30.30 seconds.

This is the first time the Chinese swimming team has won a medal in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay at the Olympics.

Among the swimmers, Yang Junxuan, Cheng Yujie, and Wu Qingfeng are students at Shenzhen University. All three participated in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Yang is a 2020 sports training major at Shenzhen University’s School of Physical Education and won the gold medal in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay at the Tokyo Olympics. Cheng and Wu are 2023 sports training majors and placed seventh in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay at the Tokyo Olympics, setting an Asian record.

In total, four athletes from Shenzhen’s Nanshan District — Wang Liuyi (synchronized swimming), Wang Qianyi (synchronized swimming), Zhang Yuetong (rock climbing), and Yuan Yue (tennis) — as well as 13 athletes from Shenzhen University, including table tennis players Chen Meng and Sun Yingsha and swimmers Yang Junxuan and Tang Muhan, are competing in the Paris Olympics.
