








WHAT could be more invigorating than spending a summer afternoon surrounded by the melodies of classical music and movie scores in the cool embrace of an air-conditioned concert hall? This August, the Shenzhen Concert Hall has curated four events for the public’s enjoyment in its two public benefit series. On Aug. 4, audience members can look forward to a unique organ four-hands performance by organists Li Neng and Zhang Yong. They will present a repertoire of Baroque and Romantic masterpieces, including Johann Pachelbel’s iconic “Canon in D Major,” Brahms’ lively “Hungarian Dances,” Tchaikovsky’s enchanting “Nutcracker Suite,” and Ravel’s captivating “Boléro.” Li, acclaimed for his exceptional organ skills and musicality, will be joined by Zhang, a doctoral graduate from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University Bloomington. Zhang has achieved international recognition for his talent, placing third at the Sursa American Organ Competition. Time: 3 p.m., Aug. 4 Tickets: 10-30 yuan Celebrating Chinese Valentine’s Day on Aug. 10, pianists Wu Kunlun and Wu Feng will bring a piano four hands concert themed on love. The program will include “Salut d’amour,” “Por Una Cabeza,” and scores from “La La Land” and Jay Chou’s movie “Secret.” Time: 3 p.m., Aug. 10 Tickets: Free On Aug. 18, Xu Hong, pianist and associate professor with the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, will give a free lecture on Mozart, one of the greatest musicians in human history. His presentation will explore Mozart’s artistic journey, dissecting his compositions and the influences that shaped his music. Xu has also designed interactive games to better engage the audience. Time: 3 p.m., Aug. 18 Tickets: Free On Aug. 24, Ye Zonghan, viola teacher with Shenzhen Arts School, violists Zhao Yuyao and Li Mei, pianist Shi Xun, and percussionist Wang Xiao will perform a chamber concert alongside Ye’s students. Their diverse program will include excerpts from Shostakovich’s “Preludes and Fugues, op. 87,” Fauré’s “Pavane,” Mozart’s “Magic Flute Overture,” as well as the theme music from “The Avengers” films and “Game of Thrones” TV series.
