Zhuo Jiapeng from the Shenzhen Institute of Technology will become China’s first contestant in the newly established category of Industrial Design Technology. His fellow students, Huang Jiajie and Zhang Zihong, will compete in the categories of Cloud Computing and Graphic Design Technology, respectively. Meanwhile, Chen Jun’an from the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology will participate in the Optoelectronic Technology category. The competition, the world’s biggest of its kind, aims to inspire the next generation to consider technical and vocational education and training as a meaningful and valuable career pathway. About 1,500 competitors from all over the world will showcase their skills in 59 workshops in front of 250,000 visitors. China is sending 68 participants to compete in all workshops, with 27 of them from Guangdong Province. During a send-off ceremony Monday, Zhuo expressed his excitement and confidence about the upcoming competition. “I have participated in many competitions and gained valuable experience. I am excited about the competition and feel confident,” he said. Du Le, an official with the city’s human resources and social security bureau, emphasized that the participation of these four students reflects Shenzhen’s commitment to integrating skills training with industrial development and the city’s progress in cultivating new quality productive forces. Shenzhen’s history at the WorldSkills Competition has been marked by success. Since 2015, contestants from the city have participated in four editions of the competition, earning two gold, two silver, and two bronze medals, along with three special awards. In the 2022 edition, Luo Kai and Chen Xinyuan from the Shenzhen Institute of Technology won China’s first gold medals in 3D Digital Game Art and Cloud Computing — Shenzhen’s first-ever gold medals at the event. |
