REGISTRATION for the 2024 Shenzhen Marathon, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, officially opened yesterday. There are 20,000 spots available for full-length runners, and the deadline to register is 5 p.m. Sept. 18. The marathon is set to take place Dec. 1.

Participants can secure their place by signing up through the event’s official website https://shenzhen-registration.mararun.com.

The marathon’s iconic 42.195-kilometer route, which begins at the Civic Center near Lianhua Hill Park and ends at the Coastal Square in the Bao’an CBD, remains unchanged.

Prize money for top finishers has been increased to US$54,000 each, and a bonus of US$20,000 has been set aside for anyone who breaks the event’s record. A generous reward of 100,000 yuan (US$14,040) is being offered to anyone who can beat the Chinese record.

Additionally, the top eight Chinese runners will receive prize money, with the first-place runner taking home 50,000 yuan.
