THE Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory issued an orange warning, the second-highest level in its three-tier warning system, for high temperatures at 9:05 a.m. yesterday as Typhoon Yagi approaches. The warning may last for one to two days, with the temperature expected to rise to 37°C or above.

Yagi has moved into the eastern part of the South China Sea and is continuing to approach the east of Hainan Province. As it is gradually gaining strength, the typhoon is expected to make landfall along the eastern coast of Hainan and the western coast of Guangdong Province on Friday.

According to Hainan’s provincial meteorological bureau, the maximum wind force near its center will reach levels 15-17 (strong typhoon or super typhoon level).

Guangdong’s provincial emergency management department issued a Level IV emergency response, the lowest in its four-tier system, for the typhoon at noon yesterday.

Yagi made landfall in the Philippines’ northeastern municipality of Casiguran on Monday, resulting in at least 11 deaths.

According to a statement from the Hong Kong Observatory yesterday, Yagi will come within 300 kilometers of the city Friday. (SD News)
