“MY Seasons,” an exhibition by artist Geng Ying, has recently kicked off at the Guan Shanyue Art Museum in Shenzhen and runs through Sunday. The exhibition showcases 10 large-scale claborate-style (or gongbi-style) paintings featuring figures, each exceeding six meters in size. These works include “Cai Wenji Returning to Han,” “Li Qingzhao,” “Lady Chang’e Flying to the Moon,” “Heavenly Maiden Scattering Flowers,” and “Playing the Flute to Attract the Phoenix,” among others. This exhibition signifies Geng’s second solo showcase at the Guan Shanyue Art Museum since her 2019 exhibition “Questioning the Way With Stones.” It is also dedicated to commemorating the 115th birth anniversary of her father, Geng Biao. The works on display inherit the excellent traditions of Chinese claborate-style paintings of figures, while also demonstrating a strong historical narrative and contemporary concern, according to Chen Xiangbo, vice president of the China Hue Art Association and chairman of the Shenzhen Artists Association. “The paintings on display employ meticulous techniques in composition, line drawing, coloring, and detailed image processing. They combine traditional decorative elements and a sense of flatness, reflecting the characteristics of Chinese traditional claborate-style paintings,” said Chen.
