TWENTY-TWO Shenzhen companies showcased their state-of-the-art technologies and services at the 2024 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), which concluded in Beijing on Monday. One standout product was the ultra-high-throughput T20 genome sequencer developed by Shenzhen-based MGI Tech, an affiliate company of BGI Group. According to Terence Xiong, vice president of global development at BGI Group, the T20 has achieved a global record in sequencing throughput and cost effectiveness by reducing the cost of whole human genome sequencing to less than US$100 per genome. The Walker S and Walker X, life-sized humanoid robots from Shenzhen-based UBTECH Robotics, also garnered considerable attention at the fair. UBTECH is targeting key applications for their humanoid robots in manufacturing, commercial services, and home companionship, according to staffers at the company’s booth. Tencent also made an appearance at the fair with a booth featuring Weixin Pay (WeChat Pay). A dedicated webpage titled “Welcome to China, easy pay with Weixin Pay” offers detailed guidance for overseas users. It features a brand video, user guides, tutorials, and other pertinent information, according to the company. In 2023, Shenzhen’s service trade industry generated US$130.07 billion in foreign trade, marking a historical high and representing a year-on-year increase of 20%. (Mu Zi) |
