THE highly anticipated Longgang Comedy Life Season was launched at the Longgang Cultural Center Music Hall on Sept. 14 and will last through the end of this month.

Promising an array of captivating performances and cultural activities, this festival aims to captivate audiences with over 20 dynamic theatrical shows and a host of artistic engagements. With a fusion of comedy, artistry, and the essence of urban life, the festival seeks to animate Shenzhen’s cultural landscape and deliver a unique entertainment symphony to residents and visitors alike.

The program boasts an impressive lineup of nine standout comedy acts, including renowned domestic and international titles like “House of the Dead,” and “Revel’s World of Shakespeare,” alongside enchanting productions such as “Who Am I,” Lumos Glow Plan interactive music concert, “Mahua FunAge Live,” and family-friendly favorites like “You Are the Show 2” and “Dream Flying Team.”

In addition to the on-stage performances, the festival will host theatrical masterclasses at local universities and creative hubs, fostering a deeper dialogue on comedic arts. Through strategic collaborations with academic institutions, creative precincts, and fashion centers, the Longgang Comedy Life Season endeavors to forge stronger connections between comedy and everyday life, artistry, and innovation, offering audiences a rich tapestry of performing arts experiences.

Star-studded grand opening

At the heart of the festival’s debut stands a stellar performance of “Faces in the Crowd” headlined by acclaimed actress Liu Mintao. With veteran actor Xu Songzi making a special guest appearance, the play, adapted from Feng Jicai’s original work, promises a theatrical spectacle enriched by the collective talent of artists from Tianjin People’s Art Theater.

Tirelessly discussed, the play has already garnered widespread acclaim, with tickets for the inaugural shows selling out swiftly.

Beyond the main stage

The Longgang Comedy Life Season extends its cultural footprint across various venues, including the Shenzhen Universiade Center, where over 90 performances are slated to enthral audiences. With sold-out concerts and a diverse array of performance art offerings, the festival underscores its commitment to providing quality cultural experiences accessible to all. During the opening ceremony, Liu Zhongkui, executive vice president of the Beijing Performance and Entertainment Industry Association, along with emerging talents such as actress Han Yunyun, director and actor Wu Yuhan, and Wei Xiancheng engaged in profound discussions revolving around the theme of “Era, Life, Creation.”

They shared valuable insights from their experiences in historical stage dramas, history-themed plays, and comedy creation, offering a wealth of knowledge to the audience present.
