THE Jupiter Museum of Art is presenting “Crossings,” an exhibition featuring the contemporary sculptor Guo Chengdong.

Influenced profoundly by his father, a renowned Chinese jade sculptor, Guo’s early experiences in jade carving have significantly shaped his artistic approach. This background imparts a jade-like warmth and delicacy to his sculptures. His academic journey at the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in China and the École des Beaux-Arts de Versailles in France, along with his life in Paris, exposed him to a rich interplay of European and Chinese artistic influences.

A recurring theme in Guo’s work is the horse, which he has transformed into a personal symbol. Through this motif, he expresses his insights on life and spirituality while reflecting on societal changes and the intricate relationship between humans and nature, creating a calming atmosphere for viewers. His varied depictions of horses explore the integration of Chinese traditions, realism, and contemporary art.

In this exhibition, Guo also experiments with the volume of his sculptures, while strategically placed lighting enhances the sense of space, inviting visitors to engage with their surroundings on a deeper level.

Venue: Jupiter Museum of Art, Futian District
