TO boost its tourism industry, Shenzhen is gearing up to introduce a range of exciting new sightseeing and leisure experiences, as highlighted at a provincial tourism development conference in Guangzhou yesterday.

The city’s objective is to evolve into a globally renowned hub for tourism and recreation, supporting its position as a significant consumer center. As part of enhancing visitor experiences, the city plans to further simplify entry procedures for international travelers.

Between January and August this year, Shenzhen’s border checkpoints welcomed 112 million visitors, a 15% increase compared to the same period last year. This figure included 1.135 million international tourists, up 136.2% year on year. Tourism revenue climbed 22% to 163.32 billion yuan during this period.

Since the opening of the Shenzhong (Shenzhen-Zhongshan) Link, an average of 91,000 vehicles have used the mega-infrastructure daily. On weekends, more than 110,000 vehicles have used the link a day, which was designed with a daily traffic capacity of 100,000 vehicles, indicating increased accessibility to and from the city and tourism growth.

Shenzhen’s tourism industry is flourishing thanks to its abundant resources and strategic geographical location. With a favorable climate, well-protected environment, picturesque coastlines, and vibrant culture, the city is increasingly being recognized as an ideal tourist destination.

Government authorities at various levels are creating diverse tourism offerings to cater to different preferences, including themed tours, coastal retreats, and educational experiences.

Priority is being given to enhancing infrastructure, such as transportation networks, recreational facilities, and public services, to support the expanding tourism sector.

As a subvenue of the 15th National Games and Paralympic Games in 2025, Shenzhen will use the opportunity to showcase its diverse tourism attractions.
